With lockdown restrictions still in place, I elected to work with my female partner Mollie in this film despite my research interest focusing on male friendships. In this film, Mollie is interviewed about her idea of gender and identity before and after wearing male-coded clothing.
The length of the shots in this film and the absence of my own voice was constructed intentionally to give maximum agency to my participant, especially considering the nature of the male/female gender dynamics being considered. While this possibly makes the film less focused and therefore effective, I do regard this impetus as being valid for both this work and went on to include championing actor agency and input as one of my goals in constructing a process for homosocial film practice.
